Saint Dominic preaches to the crowds

Drawing
H 540x430 mm
Expertise by Professor Claudio Strinati: «It is a magnificent autograph drawing by the great Neapolitan painter, preparatory study for an altarpiece probably executed by Giordano as part of the vast works for the church of San Domenico Maggiore a Napoli. Almost all works ( which were numerous (canvases and frescoes) executed by supreme master for the immense Neapolitan Dominican temple I am remained in place, but some have disappeared or rather are not foundmore on the membership sites.
Among these there is precisely the pallet of San Domenico who preaches to the crowds which is now preserved in a private Roman collection and is still there todayunpublished. Having had the opportunity to study it I can therefore confirm that the design of the Giordano in question here is precisely the final model for the executed shovelthen by the painter with the help of collaborators, who were all excellent. The fluid and very sensitive style of the drawing allows you to confirm the attribution to Giordano himself, with a dating therefore to the eighth decade of the seventeenth century when the Master was active for a long time in that context.
Very well preserved, fresh and very enjoyable, this drawing has a certain relevance in the overall reconstruction of Giordano's figure compared to to his remarkable graphic production.
Yours faithfully,
Claudio Strinati»< /div>
