Art of "Pingi Santi", a form of popular expression rooted in the religious tradition developed in Sicily starting from the 17th century. It consists of painting sacred images on the back of glass plates following a procedure that is the opposite of traditional painting: the details are made first and then the backgrounds. This creates a brilliant and luminous image intended for private devotion in homes.
