The Apponyi pattern, also known as "Apponyi Flower" or "Indian Basket simplified," was created in 1930 at the request of Count Albert Apponyi, a Hungarian aristocrat and a great admirer of Herend porcelain. The design is a simplification of the more complex "Indian Basket" motif, inspired by 18th-century oriental motifs. In the Apponyi version, the central stylized floral motif is retained, surrounded by symmetrical sprigs and leaves, with a border decorated with small plant motifs and gold trim.
