The work is a typical example of the melancholic fixity of Berruti's (Alba, 1977) art. The delicate silhouette of the child in a blue romper suit, which characterizes all of his work, is immediately recognizable; just as tangible is the sense of fragility conveyed by the frail figure, further intensified by the elaborate treatment of the painted surface and the rough jute support itself.
