Tano Festa (1938-1988) was a leading figure in the so-called Piazza del Popolo School. Like many artists of the "Italian Pop" movement, he began his career in the late Informel movement, quickly moving on to object-painting and, subsequently, to a production of synthetic, citation-based images. In our painting Festa's characteristic clouds stand out against the dark, dusky background, thus intensifying the contrasts between the strong, saturated backgrounds of the setting.
