Bronze - lost-wax casting

Francesco Messina was born in Sicily in 1900. He later grew up and studied in Genoa, where he began his artistic career. From 1932 onwards, he moved to Milan, where he taught sculpture at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, serving as its director until 1944. His works are held in various museums in Europe and America, in numerous important national and international private collections, and as public monuments in several Italian cities. He died in Milan in 1995.

Our bronze fits well within the artist's oeuvre, balancing the soft anatomical rendering of the forms with a modernity of expression filtered through the everlasting memory of the ancient. Signature at the base. Edition: 49/100
