"Nephew of Jean Brughel the Elder, this small tondo, although unfamiliar with his usual genre, shows his painterly traits and meticulous attention to detail. The small still life basket of fruit on the left is significant, testifying to the painter's great skill in depicting the natural world. Even the butterflies that the children chase, trying to catch, demonstrate the painter's love for meticulous attention to detail.
