Salvatore Giaconia (1825 - 1899)Attributed to
Portrait of Pietro Novelli, 19th century
oil on canvas
h 63x50 cm in frame h 76x64 cm
The painting is an excellent copy of the portrait by Pietro Novelli preserved in the Sala Rossa of the Palazzo di Città in Monreale. Compared to the prototype, certainly painted by Giaconia in the second half of the 19th century, our painting is smaller in size and entirely focused on the face of the portrayed painter. However, despite some variations, it is reasonable to assume that, precisely by virtue of the high pictorial quality and strong stylistic similarities, the hand behind this copy is the same as the original.
