Grisaille depicting the Stoning of Saint Stephen, 18th century

Relined work. The work exhibits compositional and structural similarities with a painting of a similar subject by Michele Rocca from the first half of the 18th century (Lemme Collection, Rome); from the latter, our anonymous painter must have also derived the saint's pose, although he significantly varied the attackers' gestures and the positioning of the bystanders.
