Domenico Spinosa was a painter of the last century originally from Naples. Born in 1916 and orphaned by his father at an early age, he enrolled in the professional training school with a passion for drawing, enrolled in the artistic high school, where he graduated in 1934 and continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. In his formative years he met the painters Vincenzo Ciardo and Carlo Brancaccio who had an important influence in the artist's initial production. his works nationally and internationally. Among his most important exhibitions between the 1950s and 1970s are the Quadrennial in Rome, the Venice Biennale, a collective exhibition in London together with Afro Basaldella, Pietro Consagra, Renato Birolli and Emilio Vedova and various personal exhibitions throughout Italy. From 1973 to 1986 he held the chair of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and at the School of Nude in Naples. During his life, Spinosa moved from an original Neapolitan naturalism towards an informal painting with a richness of color and material, in line with the international currents. He died in Naples on February 15, 2007.
