Gaetano Previati

(Ferrara, 1852 - Lavagna, 1920)

The painting is signed in the lower left corner by the renowned painter Gaetano Previati, a member of the Divisionist movement. He trained mainly in Milan, where he absorbed the influences of the masters of Romanticism and Realism. The subject is a woman's face depicted in profile, enveloped in a white cloud, characterised by dense, filamentous brushstrokes.
