Tano Festa (1938-1988) was a leading figure in the so-called Piazza del Popolo School. Like many artists of the "Italian Pop" movement, he began his career in the late Informal movement, quickly moving on to formulations of object painting and, subsequently, to a production of synthetic, citational, and "ready-made" images. Our work is emblematic of this: a striking photograph emulsified on canvas, taken from Michelangelo's work, later enriched with brilliant turquoise enamel fields.
