Complete dinner service with "Apponyi" decoration in polychrome porcelain on a white background, Ozier edge and gold profile
Service consisting of: 24 dinner plates, 12 soup plates, 12 side plates, 2 salad bowls, 3 round serving plates (various sizes, one chipped), 2 oval serving plates (various sizes), 2 leaf-shaped trays, 1 soup tureen (with a very slight chipping), 1 gravy boat (with chipping) with ladle, 1 coffee pot.
The Apponyi pattern, also known as "Apponyi Flower" or "Indian Basket simplified," was created in 1930 at the request of Count Albert Apponyi, a Hungarian aristocrat and a great admirer of Herend porcelain. The design is a simplification of the more complex "Indian Basket" motif, inspired by 18th-century oriental motifs. In the Apponyi version, the central stylized floral motif is retained, surrounded by symmetrical sprigs and leaves, with a border decorated with small plant motifs and gold trim.
