Vincenzo Irolli was born in Naples in 1860. During his adolescence, he became interested in painting and later enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. In 1879, he won First Prize at the 15th Salvator Rosa Promoter of Fine Arts Exhibition, achieving considerable success and launching his flourishing artistic career. He exhibited in numerous Italian and European cities, including the 13th Venice Biennale in 1922. He died in Naples in 1949.
Our painting is characterized by bold coloring with small touches of green in the eyes and an excellent rendering of the figure highlighted by a beautiful, wavy, fluid and fibrous brushstroke.
