The painting is a precious copy of a 17th-century work by the celebrated Marche painter Giovanni Francesco Guerrieri da Fossombrone. It depicts, with beautiful and meticulous brushstrokes, the goddess Amphitrite seated on a coral throne while being pulled by a pair of dolphins. Accompanying the aquatic procession are two tritons, who, blowing large conch shells like horns, solemnly announce their passage.
