Anton Romako is an artist born in Atzgersdor, Vienna. He studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and in Munich. Between 1857 and 1875 he was active in Rome, where he maintained a strong bond with exponents of the Germanic culture. He is considered one of the most significant exponents of nineteenth-century Austrian culture, for his sensitivity as a portraitist, for battle scenes, interior views and landscape scenes influenced by the Barbizon school.
