"Nephew of Jean Brughel the Elder, in this small tondo, even if it is extraneous to his usual genre, his pictorial features and assiduous attention to detail are visible, significant is the small basket of fruit still life placed on the left which testifies the painter's great ability to represent the natural world. Even the butterflies that the children chase, trying to catch them, denote the painter's love for the meticulous abundance of details. Most of Kessel's paintings depict in an exact and sometimes almost scientific way the details, an example of finesse and exact execution." ASOR STUDY
