Antonio Travi Il Sestri
(Sestri Ponente, 1608 - Genova, 1665)
Attributed to

River landscape with fishermen, farmhouse and fortress in the background, Second half of the 17th century.

Oil on canvas
42 x 72 cm
The painting is a testament to the excellent Italian landscape art of the 17th century. The work, an oil on canvas later relined, is a fantasy landscape punctuated by the gestural rhythm of the figures and the imposing and evocative fortress in the background. The pictorial quality, as well as the style and structure of the painting, suggest a possible attribution to the Ligurian artist Antonio Travi, known as Il Sestri.
